1:1 Somatic Psychotherapy
Somatic psychotherapy is a body-centered therapy that weaves together psychotherapy, body awareness, gentle breath practices and mindful movements to invite a deeper connection with ourselves and our experiences.

Our nervous system plays a pivotal role in somatic therapy, acting as the bridge between mind and body. Understanding the function of our nervous system and its profound impact on our physical and emotional well-being (particularly as it relates to ongoing stress and trauma) is an important part of our healing process.

In a typical session, we begin with some grounding and setting our intention for our time together. Grounding is our ability to be present in the here and now. A simple grounding practice might be pressing our feet into the floor and noticing what's around us. During our session we may invite some gentle breath practices and mindful movements to help Connect with your deeper experience. It will always be your choice as to how much or how little you wish to participate in these practices.

Over time, we can learn to develop an awareness of our body's messages while safely exploring our thoughts, feelings and emotions. Many of our present day concerns can have their roots in our distant past. Often, previous traumatic or overwhelming experiences can remain trapped in our body for years and become reactivated during present times of stress.

We will also explore your natural inner resources - the strengths, gifts and resilience you already have inside you - to help create an inner place of safety and stability that is there for you when you need it. These are tools for life.

Change and growth require an ongoing commitment to ourselves and our healing process at a pace that is right for each individual.
